Laura e Antonio Bordonaro. P.S. Natale 2004

Dear Mary & Mario: Thank you for opening your home to Kari and myself. What a wonderful home you have, and how welcome you made us feel. I was just going over some of my pictures that I had taken while in Rome, and came to the clear realization of just how of an important part you played. I was made to feel welcome and at home. The warmth of your home and the happiness of your lives are embellished into the décor of your house. I am so glad that I was welcome and able to stay in your home. Rome was made more clear and historic by the assistance of you and Mario. I can not even think about trying to negotiate the finer points of Rome without your help. For that I have to thank you deeply. Mary and Mario if you ever find yourselves on the Northwest coast of the United States please know that you will always be welcome in my home, however humble it may be. Ciao for now, and thank you for everything!! Roy Snyder & Kari Mitchell Sept. 2005

Dear Mary, Mario and Marcello Forgive me for not writing before now - However, a belated big "Thank You" to you all for your super hospitality, it was a real pleasure to meet and stay with you and we so very much appreciated your kindness in running a "taxi" service for us, for amazing breakfasts and your warm welcome. And thanks also for the photo - a nice souvenir. Rome was so fascinating - many lesser known delights such as the church mosaics, and the Roman houses on Clivo di Scauro underneath the basilica of SS Giovanni e Paolo, as well as the big tourist spots.Forgot to throw a euro in the Trevi fountain but perhaps I'll be allowed to return anyway! Our thanks again and best wishes Margaret and Stefan Koprowski , UK February 2006

Hi Mary!! Thanks for the photos! I'm attaching one of the two of you. The rest of the trip was very busy, very full. "Touristing" the 1st half and meeting 38 of David's relative the 2nd 1/2. Whew! Next time we'll take it a little slower and I'll try to know more Italian! I must tell you that amongst the "important" things that we did, I think I enjoyed my time in Albano the most. Our 2nd day of wandering was so nice, expecially finishing off with the great restaurant you sent us to and a little time to hang out with the two of you. Let us know if you are ever heading our way, Wisconsin, or Michigan in the summer. Take care. Hi to Mario and Marcello. Robin Pettersen, Madison, Wisconsin USA May 2006

Goodmorning Mary and Mario, It's already two weeks ago that we stayed at your B&B.We have enjoyed it very much ,also the bb at Sonia's was very nice. Dear Mary, sorry we missed you! Thank you so much, you were all so very helpful. I'm sorry that we did not have enough time to look around the local area - next time! The train into Rome was amusing - the shop next to the station had run out of tickets and we didn't have time to get to the main square, but the conductress(?) said she wouldn't fine us if we paid on the train. We're now back at home i Linköping, and take the oportunity to send you some photos. Tried to recall how we found you on Google, but can unfortunately not find the way. However, we're still very pleased that we did find you...!! Best regards from, The Burlin family Sweden April 2007
Dear Mary,Mario and Marcello, Thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality during our recent stay at your B&B. The room was among the most comfortable I’ve ever slept, if not the most comfortable. Breakfasts were lovely and Liam still talks about the lovely egg and bacon dish – cooked to perfection. After the croissants at your place, the croissants here don’t seem as nice ! I have recommended your B&B to other people intending to travel to Rome and Ciampino airport and would like to wish you continued success and good health. If you are ever in Ireland and would like to visit us, our phone number is (353 +(0)22 55144. Best wishes and regards, Deirdre and Liam Ireland May 2007
Troyes, FR Juin 2007
Hello Mary! Just finished packing the car for the trip to Nova Scotia tomorrow. It's so hot here in Toronto that we can hardly wait to feel those cool ocean breezes. Thank you for all your hospitality. You are a true Maritimer --warm, friedly, helpful and caring. It was a wonderful part of our trip. Andrew had his graduation and has begun his new job. Fortunately its living up to his hopes - interesting with good people. I have a feeling our paths will cross again. Diane Betts Toronto, Canada July 2007
Dear Mary and Mario Thank you so much for another wonderful stay at your B&B. We had a lovely time in Rome, and it was made all the better knowing we could return to the comfort (and great breakfasts!) of your home. Thanks also to Mario for taking us to and from the airport. Please find attached some photos, including one taken last time we visited in 2004. Also, below are a few links regarding accommodation for Mario when he starts his trek along Hadrian's Wall. The first three are specific to Hadrian’s Wall, while the other two are sites that I’ve used often to find B&Bs, Pubs or Hotels throughout England. Do email back if there is anything else we can help with. Thanks again, and we hope to stay with you again in the future (there’s so much to enjoy in Rome!). All the best, Mike and Laura UK June 2007
Hello Mary - Just a quick hello and find out how everything is going with you two in Albano? I ran across your Email address, as I was cleaning out my folders and thought I would say hello. I can't believe it's been 2 years since traveling through Italy. Matthew our youngest still refers to events from that trip, such as remember what we had for lunch on the second day in Venice at that restaurant on the canal. I guess it made a great impression on them all. Donna still tells the story of how she received from you, a duplicate of her stolen dress, thank-you again. Anyways, I am sure you are quite busy with a house full of guests, as this is probably your busy season, so ciao for now and take care. John & Donna Pipa Cochrane, Alberta Guests and Happy Dwellers from 2 years ago !
Hi Mary, what a nice photo! We had a most memorable stay at your house, the atmosphere, your hospitality and the excellent breakfasts enhanced our stay. And that special first night in particular, it was fantastic to share you and your friends joy in singing Neapolitan songs. Unfortunately my photos didn't turn out that well. Hi Mary, Just a quick note to thank you for your hospitality and for kindly giving us a lift this morning! For Mario, here is the link to the B&B near Hadrian's wall http://www.saughyrigg.co.uk/. Hi Mary I hope i have been succesful in attaching a photo of us from our silver wedding.(let me know if it hasn't worked) I have sent you one with the boys as well although they aren't involved in the dancing and only "dressed up" as a favour to us! If you are interested our group's website is www.hertsearlydance.btinternet.co.uk and there might be one or two other pictures of us on it. We enjoyed our stay with you on Monday night - we felt so at home and welcome and it was a lovely way to end our holiday - thanks to you both. With best wishes for the continued success of the B&B. Good morning (or evening for you!)! We made it back to the US safe and sound on Saturday, without much trouble.I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed meeting you, Mario and Marchello and staying at your B&B. It was just perfect for us. Your warmth and helpfulness while we were there helped make our trip all that more special. Thank you for everything you did for us, from the directions on the train, subway and bus, to the wonderful recommendations for dinner! I have signed up on Trip Advisor and wrote my first review on a B&B. I have also been in contact with another family who is planning a trip through Rome in early May and have highly recommended they consider your place as well. They will be joining their daughter at the end of the University of Dallas closing and convocation, so your place will be perfect for them for a few days. I do hope it works out. I will also be sending your info to Rebecca Davies, the coordinator of the University's Rome Program and letting her know this is an ideal place and location for parents who travel to Rome during the semester. Hopefully some more travelers will come your way! Again, thank you so much for your kind hospitality. We will never forget you! Attached are a couple of pictures for you. Take care and have a blessed Easter. Warmest Regards, Tim and Bette Stamper - ARKANSAS USA - March 2008

Hello from Calgary!

I hope you will be keeping your B&B operating for a few years yet – we have told so many people of your wonderful hospitality, wonderful breakfasts, and warm conversations around your kitchen table!!  They will be sure to be in contact with you!  Staying with the Munari family was the perfect way to end a perfect European vacation with our children – we wish you all the best (and Pupa too!!!!) and look forward to another time when we will be able to meet you and enjoy your hospitality again!  Thank you so much.  Cheers for now,

TRIP ADVISOR REVIEW:     “A great place to stay while visiting Rome”

5 of 5 starsDate of review: Sep 21, 2009

I had the pleasure of staying for 5 days at Albero Gemello in August with another couple while visiting Rome and Pompeii .The hospitality of Mary and Mario is second to none. They went out of their way to take us to points of interest in and around Albano Laziale which is lovely suburb south of Rome.It is only a 10 minute walk to catch the commuter train and a 45 minute trip in to Rome Termini station. The trip in gives you time to plan your day's activities and the return journey gives your tired legs a welcome respite. The rooms are immaculately clean and the breakfasts are delicious and nutritious, showing Mary's commitment to a healthy diet. The rates are considerably cheaper than comparable B&B's in the center of Rome which I have stayed at before and the train fare is less than 2 euros per trip. Incidentally, the Roma & Piu pass covers trains to and from Albano Laziale.Mary also offers free pick-up at Ciampino airport and for reasonable fee will pick-up at Leonardo da Vinci airport which we did.
All in all, Albero Gemello was the best B&B we stayed at during our 3 week trip to Italy and Ireland.

TRIP ADVISOR REVIEW    “Wonderful B&B near Rome, Italy”
5 of 5 stars Date of review: Sep 6, 2009

i am inspired to write Trip Adviser because of a wonderful Italian Bed and Breakfast, in the Roman hillside area, B&B Albero Gemello, where I stayed for a month during my recent visit to Rome. I had intended to stay in Albano Laziale for only a few days and then move into Rome, but then decided to stay on because of the outstanding hospitality of the owners, Mary Janet MacIsaac (a Canadian), and her husband Mario Munari.

What impressed me were the comfort, cleanliness and calmness of their home, as well as the atmosphere of culture, their deep knowledge of Italy and their love of Rome and its treasures. Mario’s background in architecture and Mary Janet’s in nutrition are a great combination and make for a unique ambiance in their cultured home, to say nothing of their outstanding breakfasts. They even pick guests up and drop them off at the Roma Ciampino Airport.

I was surprised at how easy it was to go into Rome as often as I wanted, even daily, on the very dependable train which goes almost every hour between Albano and Rome’s Termini (central train station). Initially I was concerned about commuting between Albano and Rome, but I found myself enjoying the train ride and using the short trip ( 45 minutes) to plan and organize my day, check maps and reflect on my experiences in the area and in the Eternal City. One of my reflections as the train went by the Lake of Albano , was about the choice of the ancient Roman emperors -- and later on, the Popes (at nearby Castel Gandolfo), in having their summer residences in the lovely Castelli Romani with its lakes, hills, and ideal climate: a refuge and freedom from the hot Roman summers.

I have the highest recommendation for Mary Janet and Mario Munari and their very affordable Bed & Breakfast (http://www.bb-alberogemello.com ), their generosity in sharing their home and hospitality with their guests, and their balance between helpfulness and privacy.

Buon giorno Mario, Mary, Marcello and Pupa,

Thank you for the pictures! We hope all is going well in Albero Gemello . Now that the vulcanos on Iceland are quiet we hope you have much less trouble getting guests in and out of Albano. When we were back after our prolonged holiday we realized even more how extremely lucky we have been! More holiday, no extra costs for the return flight and a good place to stay with no sudden price increase. We heard of a hotel that doubled the price each extra night!
In return for the recipe and lemons, we have packed some Beerenburg and sent it off to Albano. Beerenburg is our local brew, not as strong and sweet as limoncello, but also very nice. Take one before sleeping when you have a cold (or think that you might catch one) and the other day you'll feel a lot better. The packet also contains a box of hagelslag, the dutch chocolate sprinkles to put on bread. We're sure you like it, but if not, you can always serve it to the dutch guests.

Best wishes to all of you.,

TRIP ADVISOR REVIEW          “Affordable, comfortable B&B in the upscale high castle lake country just outside Rome”
5 of 5 stars
Date of review: Oct 15, 2010

We stayed here for 6 nights and enjoyed the wonderful hospitality provided by Mary. The location is not rural, but is in the high-end suburbs about 20 miles from the center of Rome. The 3 of us used both rooms and shared a bath. For the price, we were delighted with the accommodations and the location.
The B&B is almost impossible to find because it is hidden from the street. Our GPS took us to the hospital, which is about a block or two away. Look for the restaurant with the yellow sign ... it is directly across the street.

...Without a doubt the highlight of our trip was this B&B. Mary and Mario are the loveliest, warmest hosts yet. We were welcomed as if by beloved relatives. Their love of Italy, knowledge of Ancient Rome, immaculate home (whose beautiful decor reflects their backgrounds in architecture and antiques), their helpful travel tips, etc. just made for a wonderful, memorable visit. Mary's being fluent in both English and Italian proved invaluable in advising us on shopping, dining, etc. and especially in scheduling transportation to and fro during our stay. We were completely charmed by the B&B and would definitely recommend it to others. We hope to return to relaxing, quiet Albero Gemello! Mary and Mario,
Guests from Prince George,British Columbia, Canada.
How are you guys doing? The rest of our trip went really well. Romania was fantastic. Something unexpected happened there though; we found a puppy abandoned at a bus st...op in Curtea De Arges. Well long story short the puppy is with me at my house in Prince George. Her name is Lucky. She is a Carpathian Shepard Dog; at least part anyway. Attached is a picture of her under my couch. From rags to riches! I tried to write a review for your B and B on hostel world but couldn't figure it out. I will write one when I do figure it out. Thanks again for everything while we stayed in Italy with you; we had a fantastic time. Your hospitality and assistance was greatly appreciated. I hope to do it again in the future. Give Poopa a pet for us. If you could email me the pictures you took of us before we left that would be great! Thanks,
Ian and Magda

Another pleasurable comment from Guests from New England:

Mary and Mario,
Thank you so much for the wonderful overnight stay at your place.
It was great for me to meet such interesting people who I had so much in common with.
I'm sorry we didn't have more time to discuss art, pottery, and collecting.
I was also thinking about the connection of Oscar Schlemmer, along with the tie-in with Malevich ...and Depero, etc.
I have always liked Schlemmer's Triadic Ballet. All of these people have been of interest to me for many years and
have influenced my way of seeing and thinking about art.
Also, Mary you were right about the spelling of Lippi, with two p's.
I have made the changes.
Thank you also for your encouragement, interest, and suggestions regarding the ferri project.
I will let you know what happens.
Thanks again and our best to you both.
We hope that Mario has an excellent recovery and feels better and better.
Please view my web site when you get a chance. I am especially proud of my bracelets. jsuperti.com

" Dear Mary, Mario, Marcelo and Pupa,
at albero gemello we really found a " home far away from home"!
Website promisses absolutely kept!
Big thank you to our Guardian Ange...l for leading us there! We felt so very wellcome.
And it was so nice, to be expected at the airport and by "Mother Mary" standing at the door of the home, wellcoming us. And when ever we needed help, you knew it and you helped, even before we thought about asking you. Gave us such a peaceful-easy-holliday-feeling, knowing, Mary and her family not only gives a warm and sincere wellcome, sharing their lovely home with pleasure, they really care for our beeing well! (this is always special, but we appreciated all the kindness even more, as my parents had passes away at the beginning of the year)
Albano Laziale: lovely small italian town, wonderful contrast to fantastic but tiring Rome!
Nice places for drinking a coffee ore going out for lunch, e.g. Andrea´s Hostaria, just crossing the street from Albero Gemello, tasti home made food, Frank Sinatra singing, we felt, beeing back to the 50th....
Thank you for everything, we keep wonderful memories and we recommend you to everybody!

It gives me pleasure to share my thoughts on staying with Mary Janet, Mario, Marcello and Pupa - I have been numerous times, solo, and with my family because of the warmth of this family, the great conversations, the a...wesome breakfasts, the fascinating surrounds, its proximity to Rome, Ciampino, the Pontifical Villa of Castel Gandolfo, the lakes, ancient Roman Baths, and so much more. Not only do you meet 'local' people from Italy, but also from many other parts of the world, which always adds to ones travels. There are great restaurants in Albano and Ariccia and it is definitely a city worth exploring for its 'place' in history. Albero Gemello is clean and bright with a wonderful array of antiquities, and modernity for your viewing pleasure.

Dear Mary and Mario.  Karen and I wanted to thank you again for your wonderful hospitality and kindness during our recent 2 brief stays in your lovely home. You were most gracious hosts and we feel very privileged to have met you.  We appreciated the warmth and genuine friendship that you showed us…including Mario getting up very early on our morning of departure back to Canada to offer us breakfast…and Mary, for your many kind gestures, right down to calling the Osteria across the street on our late arrival from Canada, to help ensure that we were served dinner!   We hope to stay with you again on a future trip to your magnificent country and thank you for helping make our visit to Italia so memorable.

Sincerely, Karen and Mark   Canada
